Next-Generation Suborbital Researchers Conference to Showcase Opportunities for Science, Education

On February 18-20, researchers from government, industry and academia will gather in Boulder CO for the 'Next Generation Suborbital Researchers Conference' (NSRC2010). Suborbital space vehicles could revolutionize space access by providing frequent, low-cost access to space and the capability of delivering research and education crew members and payloads. Objectives of NSRC2010 include educating a broad array of research communities to the opportunities human suborbital vehicles offer for research and education missions (REM), and to solicit ideas, questions and feedback from the researchers concerning REM applications and user requirements. Southwest Research Institute Associate VP Alan Stern and Commercial Spaceflight Federation Chairman Mark Sirangelo will give welcoming remarks before keynote addresses from NASA Deputy Administrator Lori Garver and NASA Ames Director Pete Worden. The conference will also feature a public talk by former Space Shuttle commander and chief test pilot for XCOR Aerospace Rick Searfoss. (Credit: NASA, SRI, Virgin Galactic, LPI, USRA, CSF)

14th ISU Symposium To Focus On Sustainable Space Program, Public Outreach

Over 150 participants from 30 countries will attend the ‘14th International Space University Annual Symposium: The Public Face of Space’ on February 16-18 in Strasbourg, France.  The 3-day event will target ways to raise public awareness of space through education and outreach and to enhance synergistic efforts towards building a sustainable space program.  ISU President Michael Simpson (TC) will open the event followed by keynote speaker Deputy Associate Administrator for Public Outreach Alan Ladwig (TL) of NASA. Other speakers include Kaori Sasaki of JAXA, Theo Pirard (CL) of Space Information Center Belgium, Nicole Sentse of ESTEC (C) and Foundation for Space Development Director Carla Sharpe of South Africa.  The event will also feature the Excalibur Almaz Reusable Return Vehicle (BR) developed in the 1970's by Vladimir Chelomei in Soviet-era Russia.
