Second Bigelow Space Habitat To Be Launched By Russia

Bigelow Aerospace is preparing for the upcoming launch of its second expandable space habitat, Genesis 2, via Dnepr launch vehicle from the ISC Kosmotras Space and Missile Complex in Yasny, Russia. Lift off has been rescheduled to late June from the expected 23 May launch date due to delays associated with the Dnepr rocket. Genesis 2 follows on the success of Genesis 1, which was launched on 12 July of last year and placed in low-Earth orbit, where it continues to send images and data back to Earth. Genesis 2 will include several upgrades from its predecessor, including 22 on-board cameras to assist with Bigelow's 'Fly Your Stuff' program, which will allow customers to see their own objects in space. Genesis 2 will also have improved vision, vehicle control and sensory systems, as well as a multi-tank inflation system compared to Genesis 1's single-tank design, and additional layers on its outer shield. Also, since the launch of Genesis-1, Bigelow has tripled its high-data-rate communication coverage with additional ground stations in Alaska and Hawaii. Genesis 1 and 2 are both stages in the development process for Bigelow's ultimate goal -- fully human-inhabitable space dwellings. The testing stage is expected to culminate in the fall of 2008 with the launch of the Galaxy module, which will provide the transition to the first human-inhabitable version, Sundancer. Space Venture Finance Symposium Featured At 26th ISDC

The National Space Society is hosting the 'Space Venture Finance Symposium' on 24 May in Dallas TX in conjunction with the '26th International Space Development Conference (ISDC),' which runs from 25 to 28 May. The theme for this year's ISDC is 'From Old Frontiers to New: Celebrating 50 Years of Spaceflight,' and the Finance Symposium will discuss strategies for financing the burgeoning industry of NewSpace enterprises. Burton Lee (TL) of Innovarium Ventures, John Higginbotham (TC) of SpaceVest and Peter Banks (TR) of Red Planet Capital will co-chair the one-day event, which is expected to include 150-200 space and finance professionals from around the USA, Europe and Asia – representing angel investor networks, venture capital firms, state economic departments, space firm CEOs, entrepreneurs and NASA and other space agencies. Meanwhile, the ISDC will showcase three main program tracks this year: Frontier Space Transportation, the Lunar Frontier (including Moon and Cislunar Development), and the Martian Frontier. Distinguished speakers include Apollo astronauts Buzz Aldrin (BL), Rusty Schweickart (BC) and Harrison Schmitt (BR), as well as representatives from NewSpace firms such as SpaceDev, Rocketplane Kistler, Bigelow Aerospace, Space Adventures, SpaceX, Virgin Galactic, Armadillo Aerospace, and many more.
